My dad cut all our hair as kids. My sister cut my hair when she could talk me into it. I pay for haircuts on a semi-annual basis. I've moved too often to be "established" with a stylist, so I opt. for long hair. A pony-tail mom.
Scott cuts his own hair-mostly in self defense. Nobody's seen hair quite like his, and they don't know what to do with it. He's got some great stories... and he usually fixes the mistakes when he gets home anyway.
My darling son has very coarse, mostly straight, slightly wavy hair. I like to let it get long, but I don't like to pay for haircuts. S is excellent at shaving his hair off. Not so great with scissors. I don't cut hair. Clippers make me nervous.
...until last weekend, that is.
S was working, the kids were getting their Saturday night baths, and I decided to cut the shaggy mop of hair on my son's head. I actually had a fun time, but I have no clue what I did, and I'm sure the sides don't match. I just pretended to be a stylist. I soaked his head, trimmed the edges, and then pulled up little sections and clipped "layers" into the bottom. (To make it lay flat, right?) Anyway. The little guy was pretty patient standing there with hair tickling his shoulders and mommy not having much of a clue.
The next morning, S commented that it actually looked good. I'm not sure who was more suprised. I may stop while I'm ahead, or maybe I'll get better. We'll see--if C has no hair this spring, you'll know what happened! =)

(This is "after" at my birthday party)
Just goes to show that we all have hidden talents...and sometimes you have to try new things just to find out what they are!
What have you done lately that is new, scary, or challenging? (Out of the comfort zone!)

Nice job on the hair cut. I try my best with Pat and Rawley's but really don't have a clue either. I do leave it to the experts when it comes to mine. Mind you I never get there as often as I like.
I just gave Jeff a haircut, too. He has had some bad experiences other places, and most of our married life, I have been the "paid" stylist. If only Ellie would let me trim her hair.
Charley is such a cute kid, you couldn't do anything to his hair that would make him less cute. Having said that, I love the haircut! It's a great look for him.
jen i'm so proud of you. See, really that is all I did in Louisville was pretend that I knew how to cut hair. I was always surprised when people wanted me to cut their hair because i would explain that I really didn't know that well what I was doing past ultra basic, so welcome to the world of hair cutting! Looks great!
