Word of the Year

I've been thinking. (You may have smelt it.) I want to become a better person this year, instead of just a person who is hanging on. This is a challenge for me, as I over think and over analyze most things, and have no time left for acting on those thoughts.

Then, I was reading my friend's blog, and discovered this idea. I loved the idea of having a "power word" for the year--and almost immediately I found my word. Ready for it?

Breathe.

Yes, it sounds simple, but that's what I need right now. This is the first thing we do when we enter this world, and it's the last thing we do before we leave. When done correctly, it enables us to complete more than we thought possible. Correct breathing techniques are the center of many activities, and I remember in massage school learning that we need to breath into our center, or hara. We bring in oxygen, and thus life.

So, this year, 2009, I am focusing on the most basic thing I can do--breathe.

I will breathe --
--before I get overwhelmed by the things I need to do.
--before I get carried away with the things I want to do.
--before I react to things I cannot control (the decisions of others).
--deeply so I can respond with love to those within my care.

So, here's your challenge--what is your word for 2009?

I've totally been working on a post like this for some time now. I'm having trouble being as concise as I like and less self-incriminating.

In the spirit of keeping this comment brief...my word is BE.

What a perfect idea Jen. But for me, I can't think of just one word. There are about 50 million that I need to work on. Very well put though. I think I could add that one to my list. I never did get a massage from you, dang it.
