catch up

I received my apron from the swap, and I love it! But I blogged about it here.

I've realized that Easter is fast approaching us, and I've got a few projects to complete before then, namely a dress for A. Now, I've tried to shop for one. But they are mostly all sleeveless. I am finding this especially true as she is transitioning from "baby girls" into "big girls". Yes, she's on the border of 5T and 6T (although she could wear a 3T around, she needs the length, since she's all leg right now). I can't go sleeveless with her, either. She doesn't like wearing a shirt underneath, and she won't want to go back to wearing sleeves. It's an all or nothing policy right now. I'm going for the nothing. I just know she'll fight with me on it if I change, so I can't. So, I'm making a dress for her. The only trick is, I have to use a pattern I already posess, and fabric already in my stash. Last year I made a white linen dress (with a square neckline which doesn't work well with the skinny of torso.) so this year it's either pink, blue, or lime green. I'll keep you posted. I'm thinking of making C a little vest to match. Hmm...we'll see. I also have a great idea for my sister, but I can't write more until it's finished. And I have a few baby blanket gifts to complete. I'm going to be sewing up a frenzy here in the next little while.

I'd like to squeeze out a skirt for me too...since last Sunday I tried to defend the children from S's tickling and in my haste to escape his pinching fingers ripped my denim skirt from zipper to knee. Yeah, beyond salvage. A girl just can't survive without a denim skirt. It's a wardrobe staple. And you have to find just the right skirt to replace it. This is not always possible with available selection at stores. So, I begin my quest for the perfect denim skirt, which is even more elusive than the perfect denim jeans. (an upcoming vent, er, post)

Anyway. A few projects and projections from my world. We'll see how it turns out.

So...denim apron from the skirt?

I love the idea for your sister's baby dress (also love that I have the inside scoop...heehee!)

I vote green for A's dress, but I'm a little into green lately, and I'll be sewing with green for the two I'm making for Easter.

Good luck finding a new skirt! (And tell me where you find it, because I could use one too.)

I vote lime green for the dress. And, I feel your pain--shopping for modest spring dresses for girls is nearly impossible. However, Kohl's is usually my last minute life saver. I am a stickler with the sleeve thing, too, and am more and more greatful for sticking to it now that my girls are getting older. It only takes once, and the whole fight begins ("but last time. . .", said in a VERY whiney voice!)

Elizabeth Sanders makes the cutest jean skirts from old pairs of jeans. Just a thought.

Good luck on all the fun projects! I miss the days of having my sewing machine out and not worrying about any one getting into the pins, etc! The time will come again, but for now I'll just enjoy your posts and your great ideas!
