Blueberries

So. I just love living where there is an abundance of fresh fruit! I've had to restrain myself this year, as I'm not really in a position (ha!) to take full advantage of nature's bounty. There are u-pick orchards and farms for cherries, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, marrionberries...and that's just what's been in season so far!

I did get to pick strawberries with the kids...I've got to find the pictures and post about that! I'm not allowing myself to the orchards at present...my balance on a ladder would be less than graceful. =) But I have overloaded on peaches-I made two pies last week. Guess who doesn't eat peach pie at my house? If you guessed three out of the four residents, you're correct!! I sent one to work with Scott, and ate one myself. (Hey, if I'm going to be gaining weight anyway, might as well enjoy it, right?!) Soooo delicious!

Some friends were going to pick blueberries, and while I couldn't go, they very generously picked a few pounds for me. We're talking ten pounds! (I seriously need an extra freezer, which Scott refuses to acquire until we have our own home. Men! We're currently using a little side-by-side fridge/freezer--not the room I crave.) Anyway. These were the biggest, fattest, bluest berries I'd seen. The taste of fresh fruit just picked is incredible! They were growing on a vine that morning and in my freezer that night. I'm dreaming of blueberry pie, muffins, and pancakes... but once again, these berries are all to myself. Sweet A might help a little. The boys probably won't. There's no accounting for some people's children's taste!

Anyway. I'm super excited for next year...and more berries!

I wish I knew how to post a you tube video here, because I would post this one. It is truly hilarious!! You'll just have to click on the link if you want to laugh hard. (If anyone could give me some tips, I'd appreciate it... then I'll post it here and you won't have to follow the link)

Let me know what you think!!

Tidbits

So, this is the view form our back door. Or the back deck. I'll have to find a pic of that sometime. Daddy is out with the kids and some friends flying a kite. Yes, there are five of them out there, and if you look close, there is a kite up in the sky, just above the white stuff. We often get deer out in the back, near the trees, along the fence, even up by the garage and around the house. Hence the reason for no plantings or gardening. Need a deer fence. Oh, yeah, and the skunks were found out there. (That's for another post.)
My Little Man loves to eat Mini-Wheats for breakfast, esp. the pink ones. Nothing like loving fiber at an early age! The thing that gets me, though, is the choice of spoon. Yes, that is a tablespoon for a 4 year old to eat cereal with. Perhaps his mouth is bigger than I realize...

(The kids love to choose their own utensils. With the house, we've inherited a hodge-podge of silverware that the children adore. They'll choose everything from a tablespoon to an itty-bitty-teeny spoon or cocktail fork, or scalloped serving spoon. They love the randomness I suppose.)

Spring Soccer

(once again, better late than never...trying to catch-up with pictures, not just words.) At the beginning of the season, she kept her hands in her pocket, refused to wear shorts, and wasn't exactly sure what to do with that ball.
This is the freezing cold, raining game that the kids put on jackets for and finished, red faced and frozen. Daddy tried to keep Sweet A warm when she was off the field. The girl has no body fat.
By the end of the season, she was into shorts, and into the game. She wasn't afraid to charge in and go after the ball. (Did I mention that she was about a head shorter than most of the other players? and half as thick?)
She got some pretty good kicks in, and even took the ball up the field a few times.
We were so proud of how she stuck with the program, even when she didn't want to. She really improved her skills and was so fast and aggressive in the last game. This may be a sign of things to come! She even said she might want to play soccer again. (Although, gymnastics and dance are somewhat more appealing at the moment.) We were excited to have a free Saturday after 8 weeks! Little brother can't wait for his turn to play!!

Birthday Boy!

(Note: This post is about a month late...but better late than never, right?) Ah, the perfect beginning to the day...helping daddy mow the lawn. Might not float all y'all's boats, but this is one fun lawn mowing machine, and the little man love to get on it every chance he gets! Besides, he's such a good helper!
Yes, the blue train cake. I think he had one last year... this one is a cupcake cake. Wilton has a set of silicone cupcakes (in lots of shapes) that you arrange in a design, then fill and bake. Then you decorate and each piece is already sliced! (great, except I'd rather throw away a wrapper than wash it out!)
Happy 4th Birthday Boy! So excited to blow his candles out.
This was the big birthday gift. He got his own bike, with training wheels, so that he doesn't have to borrow his sister's (which has the training wheels taken off).
He turned into quite the daredevil by the end of the evening, trying to ride tricky, with no hands, or not quite on his seat. My little man is growing up!! Happy Birthday.
